Hot Spot 4 On 6th June 2013, inCASA will be represented by In-JeT at The Danish Welfare Technology Exhibition and Conference. In-JeT will have an exhibition stand demonstrating the project’s technical solution and results. Specifically, the transferability capabilities of inCASA will be demonstrated using the results from the municipality of Skive who is currently testing the inCASA solution. The demonstration will include the touch screen and some of the devices used by chronic elderly patients in Skive and visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to try the devices themselves. In addition to the exhibition, representatives from Skive municipality will, in cooperation with In-JeT, give a presentation at the conference about their experiences with using the inCASA solution.
The annual conference is aimed at Danish municipal and regional healthcare and social care staff working with telemedicine. The Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior, Margrethe Vestager, and former Health Minister, Arne Rolighed, are among the many prominent speakers at the conference. The programme can be downloaded here (in Danish).

  • The Ministry of Health
  • The Ministry of Economic Development
  • SIRM: an Italian association on Medical Radiology
  • AICC: an Italian association on Clinical Engineering
Moreover, a specific inCASA workshop was organized within the event demonstrating the inCASA approach, the technical solution, the services and evidence of the inCASA results, presented by involved inCASA Pilot professionals.

INSERM, along with TID and REPLY, submitted an abstract paper for the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The paper was accepted and inCASA project was presented at a very important event in the healthcare domain on 2nd of June 2012 at Chicago. The inCASA poster can be found here.
The submitted work is focused on the French pilot study and is entitled 'The European inCASA telecare-telehealth electronic platform for the daily assessment of symptoms, weight and activity in cancer patients on chronotherapy at home.'

    Project objectives

Ageing population is one of the most important challenges faced by governments at local, regional, national and European levels. Demographic trends in Europe indicate that people age 65 or older already make up nearly one-fifth of the population in many European countries, and that the share is rising. Low or falling birth rates and improved health and medical care that enable people to live longer are the main drives. Social services are limited with the support resources offered to the aging population. inCASA proposed solution is willing to improve quality life of elderly people and provide real impact. Elderly people will then really use services as help living day-by-day, increasing self-confidence (or preventing his loss) and independence.

In details, inCASA aims at developing a system that will support the aging population and facilitate them to stay well at their own homes, by mean of these specific objectives:
    • Provide elderly people with means to profile their habits, while they are at home, by using unobtrusive motion and contact sensors and a Smart Personal Platform with an embedded Habits Analysis Application, registering anomalies and relaying alerts via a Smart Phone to selected actors
    • Provide elderly people (and patients with special needs) with means to monitor their health conditions outside traditional healthcare environments, and more specifically while they are at home, by using state of the art personal health systems and integrated telemedicine services
    • Provide doctors and health professionals with more comprehensive monitoring data for understanding remote user’s social/physical conditions and diagnostics, allowing an early decision making for personalised care
    • Enable continuity of care through a wider interaction between elderly people or patients and caretakers, especially including not just health specialists but also relatives or people who has close social relations with the user
    • Integrating home automation in a system permitting remote control of electronic devices in the immediate surroundings, to cover the special necessities of the elderly and to make active ageing a reality.

The project objectives shall be reached by realising and testing on specific pilots efficient integrated care systems combining innovative technological platforms for ubiquitous communication, most advanced sensing components useful in the healthcare domain and state of the art domotic systems.

Briefly, inCASA project has one mission: helping elderly people to handle ageing, by using an age calibrated integrated solution, enrolling ICT and Social and Health care resources.
